💛 How It All Started
I had no idea what amigurumi was until one day, while scrolling through Facebook, I came across the adorable crochet creations posted by an old friend and college classmate overseas. She had turned her passion for crochet into a small business, sharing her delightful handmade pieces online. Inspired by her talent and wanting to support her heartfelt endeavor, I frequently liked, commented, and admired her work from afar.
When a rare opportunity arose (a college reunion where a friend from California was traveling overseas to attend), I was able to order and receive the amigurumi pieces I had long admired. Though I couldn't be there in person, my heart was present in the act of supporting my friend.
The moment the Christmas ornaments arrived, I was in awe. The delicate craftsmanship, attention to detail, and the warmth of handmade artistry brought me so much joy. I realized I had done more than support a friend. I had rediscovered a part of myself. The pieces took me back to my childhood in grade six, when I first learned how to crochet in home economics class, making a doily and a pair of baby shoes. Though I knew I could crochet again, my fast-paced suburban life near NYC left me with little time for such creative endeavors.
It dawned on me:

🎁 I could bring joy to others by offering these unique, artisan-made pieces as gifts or personal keepsakes.
And so, YarnYummies was born. A store dedicated to sharing the happiness and charm of handmade crochet with the world.

🐾 Close to Our Hearts: As animal lovers, giving back to animals in need is a deeply personal goal. We used to foster cats, but we "foster failed" every single time. We just couldn't let them go. So now we're proud cat parents to a full house of adopted fosters. That experience is a big part of why we care so deeply about animal welfare. As YarnYummies grows, our vision is to dedicate a portion of our revenue to charities that rescue and care for vulnerable animals. We're not there yet, but it's the future we're building toward.
